Inmate: "My family sees a difference in me. I am not always so angry. I have a real smile on my face. I see hope for when I am released. Maybe they will trust in the new life that was given to me in Jesus Christ." Plymouth, May
Director: "When an inmate finds hope and new life in the Lord, he learns in supernatural speed that inward change is possible and that is reflected to the outside world. This experience is not "pulling oneself up by the bootstraps"! The man becomes a new creature, born of spirit. It is a supernatural change that brings real hope that is life transforming. Now, this new life does not mean that he will not suffer the consequences of what he did, but from the point of New Life on, there can be victory. Answers to real life questions can be found. We are here to support the inmate and the family. Let us know how we can help you."
""Inmates are placed in solitary confinement even if they are the victim of a crime in the prison. What can we do to stop this torture?" Concord, January
Editor: "We are currently doing research with affiliated partnerships on the practice, and we will be updating the resource page with news and options soon. We have heard of many horrors that inmates are subjected to, and we now have documentation on various incidents. Currently, once an inmate is placed in that type of unit, there is very little anyone can do. It is like an entity unto itself. DOC and prison regulations and guidelines are often disregarded. There have been many cases of the mistreatment of inmates by officers and prison staff. Beating inmates while in shackles is not uncommon. Inmates are traumatized by rouge officers using interrogation techniques that are prohibited. Some of these officers seem to get a specific pleasure out of hurting those who are not able to do anything about it. We are aware of several real time incidences where inmates have been neglected of food, medical treatment, visits, telephone calls, showers and hygiene options, and the list goes on. Many of these inmates are kept in small cells 24 hours a day. This is against regulation.
Solitary Confinement/Special Management Units: Life and Liberty Center is currently doing research with affiliated partnerships on the practice of solitary confinement and special management units in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The team will be updating the resource page with news soon.
There are some alarming accusations regarding treatment that inmates are subjected to. It has been said that once an inmate is placed in that type of unit, there is very little anyone on the outside can do. It is like an entity unto itself. DOC and prison regulations and guidelines cannot be disregarded, but there is some evidence that mistreatment of inmates by some officers and prison staff has occurred. Some inmates are traumatized by the alleged use of interrogation techniques that are prohibited today. Because of this, when an inmate returns to society, we pay the price.
The good news is that we have heard that not all institutions in Massachusetts are the same. Some institutions have leadership that is more in line with DOC Regulations. For this, they should be applauded, but we have learned that this is not the case everywhere.
We are aware of several real time incidents regarding allegations that inmates have been neglected of food, medical treatment, visits, telephone calls, showers and hygiene options. Many of these inmates are kept in small cells 23 PLUS hours a day. These practices are against regulations, but there are some who believe that a judge's sentence is not enough. That is where the potential for cruel treatment can occur.
We have more prison facilities in the United States than any other country. 2.3 million people are incarcerated in the U.S. Russia is second. Currently, there are over 80,000 inmates in solitary confinement or special management units.
Matthew 25:38-40
38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ 40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
